The Galaxy These Spirals form Reality Formed in 2007 by Bass Druid Kosmik Andy (Space Pirates/Psychik Hatters) and cryingeagle(Tarana/Humanity)....Emerging from the pre-credit crash glittery decadence of the betrayed republic of south Yorkshire, Sheffields Spirals' carried the secret fire of a thousand forgotten squat parties and mixed it with some retro psychedelia, folk and space rock, forged in a crucible of 'Improg'.. Kosmik Andy; veteran of the London underground music & Free Festival scene in the late 70's/80s; one of the Hawkwind families' long standing fellow travellers, (A band who, in there many forms over the years are probably, collectively, one of our major inspirations). At stonehenge in 1984 he jammed with the likes of his old associates from the Ozric Tentacles c.oloured scene). Twenty five years on, we have festivals to play, jams to create, stories to tell, laughs to larf, dances to dance, fights to fight, and love to give.. On the eve of Sheffstock, with his former band, 'the order of things' imploded, an Immortal line was spoken "If we can get some righteous~heavy space~boogie together.."..we quickly gathered a host of great musicians from the Incipient "Improg" scene, who climbed aboard and helped us give form and dimension to the Spiral craft. Ash Tuck (Ibly Di, Firegarden)came first to give make up the {volcanic fueled} rhythm section, then Sara Relish on violins and vocals. Poet Bo Meson leaped aboard for a time inbetween his own off-world projects. Tim Crosby, formerly of Einstein, Humanity and Tarana, and currently of Velvet rose, {+artist and Editor of the Grail newspaper} formerly joined us at Alchemy festival in 2010. Tracks on our album "Ancestral Supernovation" are completed, however Spirals' are as much a live band, playing has been the priority; especially benefits, festivals and happenings.. In the city where Derek Bailey et al began the improv free jazz in the early sixties, we augmented a burgeoning group of bands and artists in the freenoise 'Improg' scene.. Mixing improv with more figurative songs, to create a Fantasy Space Opera, Rebel Tales from Terran homeworlds,seemingly endless Journeys to distant Spiral Galaxies, from the spiralling double-helix, to Psilocibin induced multiverse travelling, into mythic pasts,midst groves of ancient woodland..and with a spirit of freedom and resistance..Thou art that..
